This picture shows our very first batch of sample parts built with 72 Shore A thermoplastic elastomers. These parts were built using 0.010" (0.25 mm) slices, 0.030" (0.76 mm) wide roads, 0.8"/s (20 mm/s) head motion, and a 0.037" (0.94 mm) extrusion die. The part in the background is a section of the aircrew oxygen mask. The transparent nature of the build material makes the part surfaces seem rougher than what they actually are.
We now fabricate parts with 0.010" (0.25 mm) slices, 0.012" (0.31 mm) wide roads, 0.8"/s (20 mm/s) head motion, and a 0.012" (0.31 mm) extrusion die. These newer parts are significantly smoother than the parts shown above.
